Broadly speaking, network switches can be divided into two types: wide area network switches and local area network switches. Wide area network switches are mainly used in the telecommunications field, providing a basic platform for communication. Local area network switches should be used for local area networks, connecting terminal devices such as PCs and network printers. It can be divided into Ethernet switch, Fast Ethernet switch, Gigabit Ethernet switch, FDDI switch, ATM switch and Token Ring switch in terms of transmission media and transmission speed. From the perspective of scale application, it can be further divided into enterprise level switches, departmental level switches, and workgroup switches. The scale of division by various manufacturers is not entirely consistent. Generally speaking, enterprise level switches are rack mounted, departmental level switches can be rack mounted (with fewer slots) or fixed configuration, while workgroup level switches are fixed configuration (with relatively simple functions). On the other hand, from the perspective of application scale, as a backbone switch, switches that support large-scale enterprise applications with more than 500 information points are enterprise level switches, switches that support medium-sized enterprises with less than 300 information points are departmental level switches, and switches that support less than 100 information points are workgroup level switches. Ethernet switch With the rapid development of computers and their interconnection technology (commonly known as "network technology"), Ethernet has become the most widely used short distance two-layer computer network to date. The core component of Ethernet is the Ethernet switch. Whether it is manual switching or program-controlled switching, it is for the transmission of voice signals and requires exclusive circuit switching. And Ethernet is a computer network that needs to transmit data, so it uses "packet switching". However, regardless of the switching method adopted, the characteristic of the switch providing an "exclusive path" between two points will not change. In terms of Ethernet devices, the essential difference between a switch and a hub is that when A sends a message to B, if it passes through the hub, all network nodes accessing the hub will receive this message (that is, it will be sent in broadcast form), but the network card will filter out information not sent to the local machine at the hardware level; If through the switch, unless A notifies the switch to broadcast, the message C sent to B will never be received (except in cases where the switch control permission is obtained to listen). Ethernet switch manufacturers have launched three or even four layer switches based on market demand. However, its core function is still Ethernet packet switching in the second layer, with a certain ability to handle IP layer or even higher-level packets. A network switch is a device that expands a network and provides more connection ports for connecting more computers in a subnetwork. With the development of the communication industry and the advancement of national economic informatization, the network switch market is showing a steady upward trend. It has the characteristics of high performance to price ratio, high flexibility, relative simplicity, and easy implementation.
